ECHOHAUS is based on an idea of Hamburgerian composer and artist Felix Kubin, which was developed in collaboration with composer Burkhard Friedrich, ensemble Intégrales and pop music producer Tobias Levin.

Photos of the world premiere at Sofiensäle Berlin, Festival Märzmusik, March 2010
Firstly, the project was conceptualised as pure studio production. To get a lively "cinematographic" sound with unusual dynamic relations and mechanic enlargments of detail, the group worked with a special recording technique, for which the musicians played in separate rooms connected solely by headphones.
The music of ECHOHAUS was developed through sketches and playing advices that were enriched in close collaboration with the performers. Thus a hybrid from new music, film music and improvisation, melody and noise, notated and spontaneously created music, tape- and live-concert emerged. The natural reflection of the spaces and the mixing board are both an important part of the ensemble.

"metrostation" music theatre 2005
after motives by Haruki Murakami
Instrumentation: electric (tabletop) guitar, video and CD
WP "Eclat"-festival Stuttgart, 29.1.05
A station means a permanent threat to the public order. Not only has it many entrances and exits to the surface, but also into a multiple branched network of tunnels of the underground. Next to travelers such locations also attract homeless, rootless inhabitants of the cities: bums, drug addicts and derelicts. Since they disturb the image and business of shops, at Hamburg main station there is used a special means to drive those people away: The station's fore court as well as in the tube system of the underground is treated with classical music. Studies investigated that such music makes it unbearable to drug addicts to linger at these places - classical music as a weapon for social hygene. |
